Crescent High School Reopening Plan:

JULY 22

To keep you as informed as possible, we would like to update you on our 2020-2021 school year schedule. After recommendations from Gov. McMaster and evaluating our families' and staff's needs, we have modified our operating schedule. Elementary and Middle school students will operate on a traditional 5-day face-to-face schedule that follows model 1 of our reopening plan. We will update you when a plan for high school students is complete. We will still offer a virtual option for the 2020-2021 school year. A commitment for at least the first semester must be made by July 31. Your child's school will inform you of the virtual learning details.

Our 2020-2021 Reopening Plan is now available here: bit.ly/A3Return2Learn

Four scheduling models have been adopted. The model utilized at a given time will be determined by the level of COVID-19 cases in Anderson County and the specific zip codes served by Anderson School District 3.

Included in our reopening plan are the foundations used to develop the plan, registration information, an updated district calendar, and a FAQ page with answers to additional questions. Please stay tuned as we update this page with additional information as it becomes available.

MAY 15

eLearning for K-11th Grade will conclude on May 22nd. Please check your child's school website for information regarding material pick-up/drop off. Meal distribution will continue through May.

Dear Anderson Three Parents and Families of Students with Individual Education Programs (IEPs):

During this time of school closures due to COVID-19, there are some important things to remember. Any actions taken by a district or school regarding closures are for the safety of all students, families, school personnel and community members. As districts are determining the most appropriate steps to ensure student and staff safety, we want to provide you with guidance relating to students with disabilities and their services. It is extremely important for families and schools to collaborate and communicate regarding services for students with disabilities.

Please read the full letter to parents here.

MARCH 23

We will have another conference call with the State Board of Education on Tuesday (3/24). More info here.

U.S. Department of Education Approves South Carolina Assessment Suspension Waiver: State Superintendent Molly Spearman and S.C. Department of Education (SCDE) has received notice that the U.S. Department of Education has approved the agency's assessment and accountability suspension waiver that was submitted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 17, 2020, Superintendent Spearman sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Education Deputy Secretary of Education, Mick Zais, indicating South Carolina’s intent to suspend federally required assessments and giving notice of submitting additional accountability measure waivers. On March 20, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education released a form for states to request such waivers. The U.S. Department of Education reviewed and gave South Carolina approval to suspend assessments and waived certain accountability measures. For spring 2020, South Carolina will not administer any of the following assessment programs:

  • SC READY (English language arts and mathematics in grades 3–8);
  • SCPASS (science in grades 4 and 6);
  • End-of-Course Examination Program (English, Algebra, Biology, United States History and the Constitution) the requirement that these examinations count 20 percent has been waived;
  • Prekindergarten assessments; and
  • Alternate Assessments

The SCDE is working closely with the vendors of college entrance, college credit, and workforce readiness assessments to explore innovative approaches, such as testing online. To the extent possible, districts may administer these assessments to students who may need them for post-secondary or employment aspirations. These assessments include Advanced Placement, SAT, ACT, and WIN Ready to Work. Should these assessments be able to be administered, they will continue to be paid for by the state.

School Operations: Office hours for this week will continue as 8 AM - 1 PM, to try to limit the amount of staff working in our buildings. Please contact your child's school by phone or email for questions.

MARCH 19

We had a conference call with Superintendent Spearman today. There are many variables and unknowns at this point. One thing is for certain we can guarantee that we are going to be out of school longer than anticipated. The state is just not ready to release that information. They are going to take the weekend so we should know something soon.

Food Service: eLearning Meals will not be dispersed on Friday, March 20, or Monday, March 23rd. We will resume our meal program on Tuesday, March 24th.

School Operations: Next week we will move our office hours to 8 AM - 1 PM. Non-essential staff members will continue to work from home, and a rotational schedule for secretaries/bookkeepers will begin. Essential staff members will continue to work as needed. If you have questions, please continue to contact your child's school office.

Federal and State Testing: The SCDE has requested a waiver of all federal and state tests. Superintendent Spearman stated the department has already canceled the order for the assessments. The only outlier would be Advanced Placement (AP) tests that students must take to receive college credit for the course. More information to follow.
