Starr Elementary's 5th Graders enjoyed a visit from Sergeant Major Bradley S. Driver. Sergeant Major Driver retired from active duty in 2021 after over 24 years of service. Students enjoyed hearing about his unique experiences from his diverse assigned duties while in the United States Marine Corps, including his time as a Marine One (Presidential) Crewchief. Driver holds many personal awards, including a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star. ποΈπποΈ

This week, our hearts have swelled with pride watching our students embrace our veterans and express their gratitude for them. Our vets embody the spirit of courage and sacrifice, and we are grateful for the brave hearts that have served our country! β€οΈπ€π
Our first featured Veterans Day event was a heartwarming celebration at Iva Elementary School. Iva Elementary celebrated Veterans by holding a Patriotic Parade with a special tribute song by the IES Chorus. Visiting Veterans then visited individual classrooms, allowing the students to share their stories and ask tons of questions! Thank you to the veterans who took the time to visit with our students at Iva! πΊπΈπ₯°

The Salt Sisters Women's Group of Covenant Baptist Church has sponsored food supplies for homeless children and families in the district for the month of November! We are thankful for this wonderful group for blessing our kiddos this month! π

The students' boards included necessary skills, certifications and educational requirements, job responsibilities, salary, and environment information based on their chosen career field and potential demographic location. Mj Ghrist, a Health Educator from Clemson, has partnered with Starr-Iva Middle School students to learn about MyPlate and well-balanced meals! Students recently learned the importance of vegetables in every meal and limiting salt. Together, they crafted yummy pizzas! ππ©π½βπ³π
On Friday, November 10, we will hold a district-wide Veterans Day Program at Crescent High School in the Gym. Doors will open at 8:30 A.M., with the program beginning at 9 A.M. πΊπΈ
We want to extend a special invitation to all of our veterans. Any community members are also welcome to attend. Student performances will represent all Anderson 3 Schools. We look forward to honoring our veterans! β€οΈπ€π
